that offers probably the best wildlife spectacle on the planet: the Serengeti National Park. With Sayari Camp in the northern Serengeti and Suyan Camp in the Loliondo area in the eastern part, the mobile Olakira Camp moves in the southern and central Serengeti area, following animal movement patterns. Together, the three camps offer unparalleled coverage of the Serengeti eco-system. In the course of 2006, the wonderful crew of Olakira - from all over Tanzania - have turned any visit to this camp into an intimate, yet overwhelming experience that leaves a long lasting impression on any guest lucky enough to find it, hidden as it is right in the heart of the Serengeti.

The accommodation

Olakira Camp is an intimate mobile tented camp of 6 guest tents and 2 common area tents. '

Olakira' means 'star' in Maasai and with its sister camp, Sayari, on the Mara River, they cover the best areas of the vast Serengeti National Park. Whilst the mobile nature of Olakira Camp allows it to move to the densest concentrations of wildlife, it manages to surprise with its spaciousness and comfort. Large beds, wide private verandas, convenient bathroom facilities, a great lounge area and wonderful food served under the Serengeti stars ensure total well-being. A stay in Olakira Camp is not about 5 star luxury though. It's about something more than that. Being in the middle of this wonderful spectacle, with wild animals roaming around camp at night, is a dream come true to even the most experienced of travelers.

The guest tents are spacious and comfortable with large king-size or twin beds and convenient bathrooms.

Each tent has its own private verandah with an amazing view overlooking the Serengeti. Bathrooms are extremely comfortable for a mobile camp, with shower, wash basin and an environmentally friendly toilet. Central to the camp are two common tents that are open to the surrounding nature. When the camp is occupied by multiple small groups, one tent will serve as a dining tent and the other one as a lounge, where drinks are served and safari stories are shared. When a larger group (e.g., 8 people) visits the camp, one of the common tents can be made the exclusive lounging/dining tent for that group. The other tent will then be set up as a lounging/dining tent for the other guests. Fantastic meals are served in the dining tent or in a private location: your own veranda or under the Serengeti stars.

Olakira Camp operates from June to December in the central Serengeti. Here, balloon safaris give you the unique experience of observing the animals, and the Serengeti landscapes from above. Back in camp, story telling, playing chess, star gazing or simply listening to the great sounds of the bush are some of the activities you can enjoy back in the comfort of the intimate Olakira Camp.
